Equipping your kitchen is essential for effective food prep. By equipping your kitchen with the basic utensils, glassware, plasticware and more, you set yourself up for a quick and easy food prep, that maximizes the time you spend in the kitchen.
WHY EQUIPPING YOUR KITCHEN IS ESSENTIAL FOR FOOD PREP
Good Morning!!!
How has your week been going?! Hopefully swimmingly. It’s cold and snowy here, so I literally just want to curl up with a warm drink, a blanket and watch Gilmore Girls! But, alas, there is work to be done.
Because of a busy weekend and a busy past 2 days, I didn’t get much food prep done on Sunday. So, today is becoming my food prep day for the week, which means I need to get this post typed and out, in order to go start!
If you were here last week, we talked about how Mindset was an important first step to Effective & Stress Free Meal Prep. Today, I want to touch on equipping your kitchen to set yourself up for success. A few weeks ago, I shared my Top 3 Most Awesome & Favorite Kitchen Tools and those show up in today’s list!
Now, equipping your kitchen…what does that even mean?

When you decide you want to embark on food prep journey, you gotta have a few things in your kitchen. What are you going to do with all the food you prep AND how are you going to prep it? Here are a few basic lists:
TOP BASIC TOOLS
- Cutting Boards
- Y-Peeler
- Measuring Cups (glass and plastic)
- Measuring Spoons
- Can Opener
- Muffin Pan
- Muffin Pan Liners
- Pots / Pans (at least a skillet & large stock pot)
- Cookie Sheets (2 – 3, in varying sizes)
- Food Chopping Device (Ninja, Food Processor or Vitamix)
- Mixing Bowls (2 – 3 & in varying sizes)
- Strainer
TOP BASIC UTENSILS
- Knives (Chopping & Pairing)
- Rubber Spatula
- Wooden Spoons
- Whisk
- Flat Spatula
- Tongs
TOP BASIC STORAGE ITEMS
- Glassware / Tupperware
- Plastic Zipper Bags (Sandwich, freezer & gallon size)
- Aluminum Foil
- Saran Wrap
- Casserole Dishes
- Mason Jars
FUN KITCHEN GADGETS
- Spiralizer (TOP RECOMMENDATION!!)
- Mandolin
- Grater
- Salad Spinner
- Waffle Maker
- Cast Iron Pans
- Stand Mixer
- Hand Mixer
- Immersion Blender
- Flat Top Skillet
Now, this is by no means an exhaustive list, however, these are most of the items that are in my kitchen, sans a few, and items that you can use to make a host of different things (find a majority on Amazon). Also, it’s not like you need to go out and buy all these items if you do not have them yet. Part of equipping your kitchen is finding what works for your food prep days. You might not have any use for a salad spinner, so purchasing it would be a waste of money. But, you might find that you need something I haven’t listed. This is just a list to help get your wheels turning!
By equipping your kitchen, you automatically save time and energy, which then maximizes your time in the kitchen and allows you to complete your food prep with less stress and hassle!

Yes I would seriously recommend a spiraizer, I am thinking of making it necessary for my clients! I love this list, I can’t imagine trying to food prep in a kitchen that is not well stocked with the basics. Great list Jen!!
Thanks, Sam! A spiralizer is just such a great tool! I love it!
two things im most definitely missing: spiralizer and waffle maker!! but i am running out of room in my kitchen!
Hah, a good problem to have in some cases, Beverly! Get a spiralizer next, for sure!
Can you do an entire spiralizer post? On all the ways you’ve used it? Cause you literally blew my mind with the sweet potato noodles. I mean BLEW IT. And I need to discover new ways to use it other than zucchini noodles, which I love btw. So could ya? Could ya, could ya, could ya??? 😉
Yes! I can totally do that!!!
